Kabouterland Kwartaal Brief 3

Liewe Ouers

Vriendelike groete.

Dear Parents

So, for the first time this year we are officially at the end of a term. We are very grateful to be able to say that under these “new normal” circumstances the children of Kabouterland are actually doing very well. This year threw us a “curve ball”, but even that could not extinguish the positive spirit of the school.

There has been an increase in positive COVID19 cases in recent times. Kabouterland is very happy (and proud) to say that we have not been affected by this at all, but there is always the possibility that it can happen. We want to try to avoid it at all costs. On this note, we just want to emphasize the following again:

• Vlinder parents and brothers / sisters must not move through the school from now on (with the warmer weather). Please walk round the outside of the school building and use the door on the Aftercare side. We would like to minimize any movement through the school as far as possible. Thank you for your cooperation in this regard.

• We understand your frustration with the screening process at the front gate, but it is unfortunately a protocol and will most likely be done for some time to come. We ask that you please be patient with this.

• Please use the side gates to leave the school premises (when open)

• ALL children over the age of 2 must please come to school with a mask. It can then be taken off once they get to class.

• We ask that you make the drop off and pick up process as quick as possible and not engage in unnecessary conversations with other parents or staff.

• Sick children must please be cared for at home. If a child develops a fever at school or shows any other symptoms of illness, the parent is called and asked to fetch their child as soon as possible.

Concert: With the restrictions that came with the Covid-19 pandemic, our annual concerts was not possible. However, we have devised a plan and the classes’ “impromptu” concerts have been shared with you via whatsapp, as well as on our Facebook group. Many thanks to all the teachers and assistants for their hard work.

Art exhibition: As with our concerts, we could not invite you to come and admire the children’s artwork in their classes, but once again we made a plan. We held a mini art exhibition against one of our exterior walls and hope you were just as impressed with everyone’s handiwork. Thanks again to all the staff for their hard work with this.

Extramural activities: Many thanks to all the parents who completed our survey regarding the extramural activities. Following the feedback from the survey, there will be 3 compulsory activities for the older friends and only 2 activities for the younger friends. We will be able to give more clarity about who will do what activities and the costs involved next term. We are negotiating with the respective coaches. From the school’s side, we are also continuing with Xhosa lessons and next year we will also try something new in the form of singing, movement, dance and drama. During “lockdown” we discovered some hidden talents amongst our own staff 😉

Christmas Gifts: The orders for the handmade Christmas gifts are now closed. Over the course of the next week, the staff will start working on all the items. By the end of November, everyone’s products will be ready and packed. All outstanding amounts for this must be paid by the end of October. Thank you very much for your support with this project.

Class placements: There have been many inquiries from parents who want to know which class their children will move to in 2021. We are still working on the class lists. The final class lists will be discussed with each teacher before being passed on to you in the December progress report. Please note that there are several factors that play a role in the placement of children and this is not a decision we take lightly. We ask that you trust us with the decisions we make.

Important dates and times: Kabouterland closes on 23 December at 13:00 this year and reopens on 7 January 2021 at 07:00. We ask that you please stick to your pick up times. Half day is until 12:15, Half day with meals is until 14:15 and Full day is until 17:30. Please note that you can only start going into the classes at 07:00 in the morning.

Teacher Ronél (the Muise teacher) is going on maternity leave today. We wish their family all the best with the arrival of baby Hanru. We look forward to meeting this little guy. Aunty Wilna has been visiting the Muise for some time now and will take over the reins from Ronél during her maternity leave. We would like to welcome to her in the Muise class, we know the children are going have lots of fun with her and aunty Verna.

We are sure the kids are looking forward to the break they’re getting now. If you are lucky enough to be able to break away for a bit, drive safely and enjoy every moment.

We look forward to an exciting fourth term!

Friendly regards,

Kabouter Office
